Twitter Reportedly Making A Premium Subscription Service

Twitter has recently stated that it is considering a paying subscription model for certain services, and app researcher Jane Manchun Wong tweeted on Saturday that she has learned how much it will cost and what the service will be labeled.

Wong claims that Twitter Blue would cost $2.99 a month and have an Undo Tweets option as well as bookmark sets. According to Wong, Twitter seems to be operating on a tiered pricing scheme, which she believes would result in a less cluttered, premium interface for the highest-paying users.

Over the last few weeks, Twitter has announced a number of new features, including an update to its warnings for potentially offensive tweets, an improved photo cropping algorithm that allows "taller" images to fully display in users' feeds, the ability for Android users to search their direct messages, and the launch of a Tip Jar feature that allows users to donate to certain creators, journalists, and other content creators. Twitter also bought Scroll, a $5-per-month premium package that blocks advertising from participating websites, earlier this month.

Tony Haile, the former CEO of Scroll, who is now on Twitter's product committee, tweeted the day his company was purchased that Scroll would "integrate into a larger Twitter subscription later this year," as Wong pointed out in a later tweet. That would seem to imply that an ad-free experience would be one of the features of a premium Twitter product, something that diehard tweeters have requested almost as much as editable tweets.

Twitter recorded a $68 million profit on $1.04 billion in sales in its first-quarter earnings report late last month. The number of monetizable daily active users increased by 20%, according to the company.

There's no news on whether a paying premium edition of Twitter will be available or who will be registered.
