Land Rover's New SUV Convertible The Range Rover Evoque Debuts; Specs And Full Details Revealed
At this week's Los Angeles auto show, Land Rover debuted its topless SUV, the Range Rover Evoque, according to Auto Express.
The Evoque took its first global bow and filled a non-existent segment. Nissan has attempted this space with the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet. It did not sell and production last year was discontinued.
"When the Range Rover Evoque Convertible was first shown as a concept, the response was overwhelmingly positive," said Gerry McGovern, head of design for Land Rover.
McGovern was referring to the concept shown at the 2012 Geneva auto show, revealed Detroit Free Press.
Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque caters to an eco-conscious customer base but still has the ability to keep up when the road gets rough.
"It was the next logical step to bring the pioneering concept to reality and with a clear design strategy we have safeguarded the distinctive character of the Range Rover Evoque," added McGovern.
The Evoque's has an edgy, agressive styling but still, clearly a Range Rover from the front to the back.
It has a 240-hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine which make a 251 lb-ft torque, while achieving 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway stable.
The engine is capable of propelling the Evoque from 0-60 in 7.1 seconds and features direct injection. The transmission available is a 6-speed automatic, coupled to a Haldex full-time all-wheel-drive system.
Land Rover says the Evoque is designed to be able to ford water up to 19.7 inches deep without hesitation, and ground clearance comes in at 8.7 inches.
Safety features include anti-lock brakes, an anti-skid system, traction control, side curtain airbags and front-side airbags.
The Terrain Response system is standard, automatically providing several settings for different traction situations, may it be loose gravel or deep snow.
The Evoque is available in two bodystyles, a two-door coupe and a slightly larger four-door; both feature similar wedge-like side lines.
Standard features on the base "Pure" Evoque include a lip spoiler, LED brake lights, a Meridian Audio system with 11 speakers and Bluetooth, "Dinamica" leatherette seat trim, proximity key ignition an dual-zone climate control.
A Premium package adds a blind-spot monitor, a surround view camera and adaptive HID headlamps. On the 4-door, a Plus package adds leather seat trim, LED fog lamps, a powered tailgate and a panoramic roof to the Pure.
The Premium package adds the contents of the Plus as well as headlight power washers a blind spot monitoring system and luggage rails.
The Climate Comfort package includes a heated steering wheel, heated windshield, heated washer jets and heated front and rear seats. Two kinds of 20-inch wheels are available as is a hard-drive based navigation system.
Land Rover's Range Rover Dynamic Evoque models include standard MagneRide dynamic suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels and rain-sensing wipers. Adaptive cruise control is optional on both the Prestige and Dynamic, as reported by Yahoo Autos.
The Range Rover Evoque convertible will be in the United States, on sale mid-2016, priced from $51,470 including destination charges.
