The production team and creatives of the popular Korean dramas today are going beyond the audience's expectations in such a way that year by year, they simply get more innovative with their plot and storylines.

As the viewer, these K-Dramas are impressive. More so, when you know they are based on a real life event, everything changes. You cannot applaud and give the K-Dramas you watch the literal standing ovation, but inside, you are sure delighted. Here are the best K-Dramas inspired by true stories.

1. Empress Ki

"Empress Ki" tells the story of a woman, a Korean-born warrior girl who becomes a servant of the Mongol Yuan only to turn into the empress in a different land. There are several historical TV series that seem real, but in fact, are fictitious. Not with "Empress Ki." The relationships here are fictional, but the characters have previously existed in Korean history.

2. Gap Dong

Those who have the confidence to watch crime thriller series will love this. "Gap Dong" features the Hwaseong serial murder case that happened between 1986 and 1991 in the Taean neighborhood in South Korea's Hwaseong. It is when ten women were raped and murdered. The K-Drama features the crime and how detectives worked together to solve it.

3. Klaus 47

Starring Lee Ha Nui, "Klaus 47," tells the true story of a weapons lobbyist who took the French political world by storm.

4. My Wife's Having An Affair This Week

Who does not love reading online forums and seeing questions that are, indeed, very interesting? "My Wife's Having An Affair This Week" is a Korean TV series that is based on a real-life question posted in an online forum, "My wife is having an affair this week. What should I do?"

5. The Fifth Republic

Lastly, "The Fifth Republic" tackles the events in 1979 when the Korean government was taken over by the infamous Chun Doo-hwan. He is portrayed by award-winning actor Lee Deok-hwa.
