Coronavirus, or COVID-19, continues to spread rapidly in New York City. The number of deaths on Friday, March 30 grew to 14, the first time the number reached double digits for a single day. The rate of deaths increased to one person per hour in the city.

The total number of coronavirus deaths in New York City has totalled 43 for the Big Apple, including the surge on Friday.

The NYC health commissioner, Dr. Oxiris Barbot expects that the number of deaths due to coronavirus will continue at the same rate at least for a little while.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we get to a day when we have double-digits new people dying every day," she said during a press conference on Friday.

The city currently has nearly 6,000 cases and the most number of cases are concentrated in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan, respectively.
