K-drama fans have been anticipating the return of Korean zombie apocalypse drama Kingdom. The hype is high since Season 1 ended in a very tense cliffhanger. Kingdom actor Ryu Seung Ryong has offered some hints on what to expect in the upcoming installment.

Ryu plays the role of power hungry and ruthless Minister Cho Hak Jo, who aims to put his family to the throne. The actor confessed that he himself was puzzled at first on why Season 1 ended in such manner. Then he realized that the pilot season of Netflix's zombie period drama is just an introduction to the story of the Kingdom.

Ryu revealed that he already read some parts of the Season 2 script and teased that he is quite worried about how the production will resolve everything in the end. This could mean that several more twists will be coming up in Season 2.

"The story also develops very quickly, and I read all the way through the script for Episode 4 in a flash. Characters other than the main cast seen in Season 1 will likely play a bigger role in Season 2," he said (via Soompi).

Ryu also hinted that big things are about to happen to Queen Cho Hak Ju (Kim Hye Jun) Season 2. In the story, the Queen is also the daughter of Minister Cho.

The actor assured that in Kingdom Season 2, viewers will see Kim's true skills as an actress. Kim earlier received criticisms about her acting ability. Ryu believed that Kim portrays her character of a foolish young queen in Season 1 really well. In the upcoming installment, he said the actress "hidden potential" will also take a flight.

Kingdom is based on webcomic series The Kingdom of the Gods. It is set in Korea's medieval Joseon period and tells the story of Crown Prince Yi Chang (Joo Ji Hoon), who has been accused of committing treason against his father, the King. He later embarks on a mission to investigate the spread of a mysterious plague that infected his father and some provinces of the country.

The strange plague turns people into violent zombies that are hungry for flesh. The Crown Prince will try to prevent plague to reach the country's capital of Hanyang with the help of his personal guard Moo Young (Kim Sang Ho), the physician Seo Bi (Bae Doo Na), and the mysterious man Yeong Shin (Kim Sung Gyu).

However, they discovered that their initial assumption that the zombies only rise when the sun sets is not accurate. At the end of Season 1, the zombies did not show up at night but instead attack the village when the sun rises.

Reports indicate that Kingdom Season 2 is set to begin production this month. Netflix dropped the first season of the zombie period drama on January 25.
