It will be an exciting Grey's Anatomy Season 15. The ABC medical drama has announced the casting of its first ever gay male surgeon and the LGBTQ community is pleased about it.

Alex Landi will be joining the cast of the fifteenth season as Dr. Nico Kim in a recurring capacity. TVLine reported that ABC has confirmed the casting of Landi but declined to offer additional details about the character that he will be playing or how long he will stay in Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Landi also confirmed his casting in a video he shared on his Instagram account. He thanks everyone who helped in making his new TV stint possible.

Over the years, fans have guest characters that are gay or bisexual but not are male surgeons. The LGBTQ fans of the show are excited to see how Dr. Kim navigates his new world.

Landi is a New York City-born half Korean and half Italian actor. He dreamt to become a professional player but after his parents took him to Broadway to watch The Lion King when he was 7-years-old, he became more interested in acting.

After high school, Landi decided to pursue acting and started training at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. Among the famous alumni of the school are The Avengers stars Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans, Alec Baldwin, Uma Thurman, and many others. Some of the notable acting credits under Landi's name are his appearance as a juror in an episode of Bull last year and most recently, in the movie Broken Land.

Landi's casting as a male surgeon will create several storylines for the show including a possible romantic relationship between Dr. Kim and another male character. It is also interesting to see how he will develop a friendship with the straight men and women in Grey-Sloan. Fans have seen how orthopedic surgeon Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and pediatric head Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) develop a close friendship with their fellow surgeons.

The two were the most notable representatives of the LGBTQ community in the show. But Ramirez left the show after Season 12 while Capshaw exited last season. Of course, there is still Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato). She had a relationship with Arizona but the two broke up after the latter decided to leave the hospital. Andrew DeLuca's (Giacomo Gianniotti) sister also flirted with Owen (Kevin McKidd). However, there is no information if Spampinato will return next season.

Meanwhile, Landi is not the only new cast members of Grey's Anatomy Season 15. ABC earlier announced that Nashville actor Chris Carmack will also join the show as a surgeon who will is also known as the "Ortho God." Viewers will also see the return of Kim Raver as Dr. Teddy Altman and veteran actor Jeff Perry as Meredith's father, Thatcher Grey.

Grey's Anatomy Season 15 will have a two-hour pilot episode. It will air on September 27 at 8/7c on ABC.
