'Outlander' Season 4 News & Updates: Star Catriona Balfe Dares Co-Star Sam Heughan For Midge Dinner
It looks like Outlander Season stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan will embark on a dinner ala Fear Factor should circumstances permit. In her recent post on Twitter, Balfe dared her co-star to have a midge dinner with her. Although Heughan hasn't replied to the actress' challenge, many Outlander fans already anticipate what the actor would say.
The dare stemmed from Heughan's re-post of BBC Scotland's article about the plan of a hotel in Scotland to include midge burgers on their menu. Balfe quickly responded to the heartthrob's post.
"But what do they taste of..?? Shall we find out tonight? In lieu of craft services, we will now be eating midges. #midgesoup #midgesalad #midgesaladwithonions #midgemanomellette #midgewithawewbitofpepperandoliveoil," Balfe tweeted.
In the article, Brander Lodge Hotel owner David Keat said they plan to serve burgers made with midges to his customers. Apparently, the burgers would be dipped or coated with midges, more like breadcrumbs. Keat added they would also sprinkle some special secret ingredient to the burger.
Midges are a group of insects that include many kinds of flies. Keat revealed that he came up with the idea of midge burger after creating a vegan "midge fodder burger" using the plants from the hotel's garden, which is a home for the insects.
Making the burger would not be a problem since it looks like supply is abundant in the area. It is also expected that the hotel wouldn't mind hosting the Outlander midge dinner.
However, the menu still has to be tested to ensure that it is fit for human consumption. It also needs to pass evaluation from Argyll and Bute Council's environmental health department. This means Heughan is still off the hook (for now) if he is not up for the challenge to have midges dinner with Caitriona Balfe.
As for the Outlander Season 4 actress, Balfe said she is willing to taste any exotic food except for cockroaches. When asked by a fan what the weirdest thing she has ever eaten is, the actress revealed it was termites. Balfe attested that the flavor is good as it tastes like basil or lemongrass.
Outlander author Diana Gabaldon also joined in the exchange of Twitter and teased Balfe about the trick on how to eat cockroaches. Gabaldon said Balfe should think of these insects as tiny lobsters. Balfe responded in the most adorable way. "No... no... I see what you're doing. Trying to associate cockroaches with cute things like lobsters to make them seem normal and not the nasty, evil, scheming devils they are. It won't work. Nope. No way. #mynemesis," Balfe wrote. Now, everybody knows what Balfe's phobia is.
