Kim Saeng Min Apologizes for His Decade Old Mistake
Popular comedian Kim Saeng Min, famous for his personal finance podcast, issued an official apology via SM C&C, his agency, responding to the claims of sexual harassment committed ten years back. In his statement, Kim reportedly said, "I can only say I'm sorry. It's been 10 years. No matter what I say, it will sound like I'm making excuses. I can only say I'm sorry."
The Unraveling
The incident, which reportedly took place at a work party way back in 2008 was reported by Dispatch, which is a famous online media outlet. The case was revealed in a letter that was sent anonymously to the media outlet by a woman who confessed that she along with other members of the staff has become victims to unwarranted sexual advances by the comedian during the course of the party. Kim Saeng Min was performing in a show that was being telecast by the broadcaster who arranged the party, as reported by Korea Joongang Daily.
The Incident
According to the inputs provided by the woman in question, during the night of the party, Kim Saeng Min went out for a karaoke night along with other writers and producers. She said that the comedian called her in his room. Once she entered, he pulled her towards him and did not let go despite her showing enough resistance. It was only after a senior colleague made a sudden appearance in the room that he abruptly let go of her and pretended as if all was normal. The woman described the experience as traumatizing and also stated that she later quit her job too.
The woman also mentioned another victim who was reportedly harassed in a similar fashion by Kim Saeng Min on the same night. She worked for the same broadcaster and had even complained to the production crew. The crew, however, stated that they could do nothing about it explaining that such issues weren't enough for firing a celebrity from a popular show!
The 'Me Too' Success Story
It is important to note that several entertainers and celebrities have been charged with allegations of misconduct and sexual harassment by the "Me Too" movement. There have been some sensational unraveling of cases that were pushed under the carpet earlier by broadcasters and media companies.
