'Frozen 2' Update: Jennifer Lee Talks About The Idea of Giving Elsa A Girlfriend
It looks like fans are about to see a new character coming in Frozen 2 and she could be Elsa's girlfriend. In an interview with the movie's director, Jennifer Lee, she talked about the idea of giving the Snow Queen a girl partner.
"I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film," Lee told The Huffington Post. The screenwriter explained that fans said that that movie is creating dialogue and Elsa is a wonderful character that can speak to a lot of people.
So, with the involvement of the movie's supporters to Frozen 2, she said that they appreciate that they are being part of the conversations. She went on to confirm that they have a lot of talks about Elsa's new girlfriend and they are really careful to add this storyline.
For Lee, Elsa is telling her every single day where she has to go and she will continue to do so. She also said that she is always writing from character-out, so they will surely know where her story will go.
Moreover, Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa, already supported the idea of giving the Snow Queen a girlfriend in Frozen 2, Time cited. To recall, this concept has trended on Twitter, with the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend, since 2016. However, as of this writing, it remains to be seen if she will have a girl partner.
Meanwhile, in a different interview with Slash Film, Lee admitted that they are not bound to reveal anything about Frozen 2. This will surely bring her in big trouble, thus she has to be very careful.
She just went on to say that she and her co-director, Chris Buck, are not supposed to do a movie sequel until they talked about something that they haven't explored yet in the film. She even teased that it is an important part of the movie.
Lee then revealed that she has spent a lot of time writing journals like the girls. She also explained that she is not copying what fans loved about the original story as she simply cannot do it. Also, if they try to write based on the first film, she believed that it would end up revealing a "very hollow" storyline.
Frozen 2 is set to be released on November 27, 2019, in the U.S.
