The Seven Seconds creator has teased what could be the possible Season 2 plot of the show if Netflix will renew the TV drama for another installment. Seven Seconds has premiered on Netflix and it received mostly positive reactions from both viewers and critics.

Creator Veena Sud said Season 2 could focus on another political issue but will still use New Jersey as its backdrop. Seven Seconds is an anthology show which means a new story will be featured in every season. Although the storyline of Seven Seconds will change, some of the cast members may still be the same. Netflix has yet to give a green light for Seven Seconds Season 2. The ten-episode Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix

Season 1 Plot

The freshman season of the crime drama focuses on how the lives of several people change after an off-duty white police officer accidentally runs over 15-year-old black teenager Brenton Butler. Racial tensions explode in a town in New Jersey after.

It was later revealed that the cop tried to cover up the crime. Subsequently, a high-profile trial ensues. Season 1 not only tackles the human stories behind the case but it also took a closer look at the flaws in the U.S. criminal justice system.

Sud said the first season was inspired by the series of young black men being killed by police officers in the U.S. She was compelled to write Seven Seconds specifically after the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray in April 2015. Gray died after suffering a neck injury while in police custody. In the TV drama's story, however, the black teen was a victim of hit-and-run instead of shooting.

"It was the right time to start thinking [about] how to tell this story and make that attempt and open that door. But that's really where it all started for me - turning on the TV and seeing what was happening every night in America," Sud told CNN.

Season 1 Cast

Emmy winner Regina King and SAG nominee actor Russell Hornsby portray the role of the boy's parents. Actors Beau Knapp, Raul Castillo, and David Lyons play as the cops involved in the case. Clare-Hope Ashitey portrays the role of KJ Harper, an assistant prosecutor in New Jersey who handles the tragic case. She first thought it is an open-and-shut case until she realized that justice can't be easily served.

Although Netflix has yet to renew Seven Seconds, Ashitey has already expressed interest in working with Sud and the rest of the cast again. The Suspects actress said she would love to explore what happens to KJ next and where she goes after the case.

"I'd love to be involved in the second season. That is entirely out of my hands, but regardless of whether I as character am in it, or not, I think this kind of storytelling is important and should continue," she told IndieWire
