'The Walking Dead': Everything You Need to Remember Before Watching Season 8

AMC's "The Walking Dead" will be returning on Sunday for its eighth season and 100th episode. To gear you up with the show's upcoming premiere, here is everything you need to remember so that you will see the continuity and connection as you watch this season's episodes.

In Season 7, "The Walking Dead" survivors took a long time before finally being able to get the Hilltop and the Kingdom to unite with them in their fight against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his Saviors. In the previous season's finale, Ezekiel (Khary Payton), his tiger and his company arrived to save Rick and friends, making the Scavengers (or "garbage people") and the Saviors retreat. When the conflict becomes full-blown this season, Alexandria and the Hilltop have much greater support behind them. It can also mean that Ezekiel, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) are the possible frontrunners of the war.

Viewers of the "The Walking Dead" also got to see a lot of personal betrayals in the last season. Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) successfully manipulated Negan and offered help to her family and friends by sacrificing herself in that coffin on the way to Alexandria. The situation allowed the group to use her body as a weapon against Negan and helped the Alexandrians survive until the Kingdom arrived. Additionally, the Scavengers sided with Negan when he showed up and it seems like they had been feeding him information about Alexandria's plans. Also, Eugene (Josh McDermitt) became a traitor by going to Team Negan, while Dwight (Austin Amelio) helped Team Rick and left Negan unsuspecting.

Since both have a lot of reasons to hate the survivors, it's unclear what Gregory (Xander Berkeley) and Oceanside are up to. Hilltop's cowardly former leader has left the community, while there hasn't been any news about the women and children of Oceanside after the Alexandrians stole their weapons. Both characters are likely to return in "The Walking Dead" Season 8, according to USA Today.

Meanwhile, AMC said that "The Walking Dead" Season 8 will air on October 22 at 9 ET/PT on their channel. You can watch the trailer below.
