‘Grey’ Anatomy’ Spinoff: Everything You Need to Know
Earlier in May, the ABC Network president Channing Dungey unveiled their plan to have a second spin-off for "Grey's Anatomy" in the 2017-2018 season that will focus on firefighters in Seattle. Now, more details about the still untitled spin-off are out and everything you need to know about it is finally here.
According to E! Online, the spin-off will tell the story of the brave men and women who risk their lives in the line of duty and off the clock. "No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shoda (Rhimes), and Grey's signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff," Dungey said.
As for the cast, Jaina Lee Ortiz is the spin-off's first star, as named by executive producer Paris Barclay. However, her character name has not been decided yet and it's still not confirmed if she will be the show's leading lady. Another one is Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George), which was hinted in the season 13 finale when he decided to join the hunt for Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) in a blaze caused by the explosion. What's still unknown is how will his character transition from the Grey Sloan Memorial to the Seattle firehouse and how this decision will affect his marriage with Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson). Despite his reported appearance on the spin-off, he will still be occasionally seen on "Grey's Anatomy".
In addition, Miguel Sandoval earned a regular role "Captain Pruit" in the spin-off. He is described as a respected and tough leader, who is loved by his subordinates. The cast includes Grey Damon, "Iron Fist" star Barrett Doss as "Victoria", "Too Close to Home" alum Danielle Savre as "Maya", Okierete Onaodowan as "Dean", and Jay Hayden as "Travis".
Meanwhile, the first spin-off for "Grey's Anatomy" was "Private Practice". According to Hollywood Reporter, it centered on the life of Addison (Kate Walsh) and produced by Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. "Private Practice" ended its run after six seasons.
