Fourth Powerpuff Girl Revealed; Community Cries Foul Over New Character
The long wait is finally over, Powerpuff Girl fans. Cartoon Network has unveiled the fourth PPG member. However, it looks like things are not going really well with the revelation of the new character.
Cartoon Network earlier announced that a fourth member of the Powerpuff Girls will soon kick some butt. Yet, the network did not give any clue right away. With that, rumors made rounds as to what the new PPG member looks like.
Now, the Powerpuff Girls' fans can have a first glimpse of the fourth member of their favorite crime-fighting superheroes. Cartoon Network took its announcement via Twitter to reveal the new character's look. In its tweet, a photo of Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Bliss is shown with a caption that says, "welcome to the family Bliss!"
Yes, Bliss is the new Powerpuff Girl - well, sort of. According to TV Line, Bliss is the first Powerpuff that Professor Utonium made. However, she cannot control her powers. Thus, she ran away from home.
The new addition to the Powerpuff Girls garnered a mixed of reactions but most of it is negative. Some were happy that Cartoon Network decided to include a black character into the series. Bliss is a bit darker than Blossom, Bubble, and Buttercup. Even so, her race was not addressed in her pilot episode.
On the other hand, most fans did not like this new change. One Twitter user even said that Bliss' backstory is weak as well as how she was designed. The new Powerpuff Girl was also compared to Bunny, the girls' short-lived sister who appeared in "Twisted Sister" episode back in 1998
Some also said that the idea of adding a new character after 23 years is unacceptable and that the network ruined their childhood. Meanwhile, Bliss left Townsville at the end of the episode. It is still unsure if she will return for another episode of "The Powerpuff Girls."
