Volkswagen Cars Scandal News: Company To Give 'Goodwill Packages' To Affected Customers!

Volkswagen announced that they will be giving out Visa debit cards and dealership credits for the affected U.S car owners of the emission scandal.

Visa debit cards with the amount of $500 will be given to the customers which they can use to purchase anything along with a $500 worth of dealership credit. There are 48,000 car owners of damaged diesel cars that are affected by the emission scandal, according to Tech Times.

Volkswagen diesel car owners reacted to the company's apologetic gesture. Dave Thompson, a 2010 diesel sports wagon car owner in Nevada said that, "I personally feel insulted by their peace offering," reported in CNN Money. "That trust is gone," he added.

It is Volkswagen's first time to credit their customers who have been affected by the scandal, which first fired up in September about using a developed software to cheat emission tests. The supposedly environmental friendly cars emits 40 times more than the allowable nitrous oxides by the law for its exhaust.

"Over the past several weeks, we've apologized to our loyal customers about the 2.0L TDI emissions issue," according to the reports in The Guardian. "As we work tirelessly to develop a remedy, we ask for your continued patience," the statement continued.

"We are providing this goodwill package as a first step towards regaining our customers' trust," the head of Volkswagen U.S operations, Michael Horn said, as quoted by CNN Money.

Volkswagen car owners needs to visit the redemption website that will require them to type in their name, address, vehicle identification number and mileage. This process will take four weeks for the customer to receive the "goodwill package" and needs to be brought to the dealer to avail their gift card and Visa debit cards that is worth $500 each, according to USA Today.

The cars that could avail the offers are the," four-cylinder diesel versions of the 2009-15 Jetta TDI, 2009-14 VW Jetta SportWagen TDI, 2010-15 VW Golf TDI, 2015 VW Golf SportWagen TDI, 2012-15 VW Beetle TDI and VW Beetle Convertible TDI and the 2012-15 VW Passat TDI. Owners of the 2009-15 diesel Audi A3 are also eligible to receive the offer," according to the list posted in the Volkswagen website.
