Nokia announced the new Nokia 8 smartphone designed to deliver great photography, live streaming, and 4K video recording. Know the most important aspects of Nokia's Android flagship smartphone.

Durability

Nokia 8 main exterior part is polished with 6000 series aluminum unibody. This series range of aluminum contains manganese and silicon that improves the strength of the alloy. Moreover, the screen display of the device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, giving the device 80 percent chance to survive drops from the height of 5.2 feet. It has IP54 certification for dust and splash resistance. The manufacturer also applied polished mirror finishing on the smartphone.

Performance

Nokia 8 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 GPU and 4 GB of RAM. In AnTuTu 6, the device scored 175872 points which are higher compared to Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Exynos variant (174070) and Sony Xperia XZ Premium (144223) but below the scores from Motorola Moto Z2 Force (178674) and HTC U11 (177343), according to GSMArena.

Basemark OS II testing puts Nokia 8 above Xperia XZ Premium (4127) and Galaxy S8 Plus Snapdragon variant (4038) with the score of 4215 points while its graphics performance Basemark X scored 37593 points, lower compared Huawei P10 (39433), OnePlus 5 (38844) and Xiaomi Mi 6 (38541). Still, Nokia 8 graphics engine performs well even with 1440 x 2560 QHD display resolution.

Software

Android 7.1.1 Nougat is the factory OS of Nokia 8. The user interface of the smartphone is dominated by popular apps from Google such as YouTube, Gmail and Google Photos with minimal tweaks from Nokia. Software updates from Nokia will it keep updated and secure, according to the manufacturer's website.

Camera

The camera is a most powerful aspect of Nokia 8 using the exceptional Carl-Zeiss lens on both front and back cameras. Primary camera features 13 MP dual image-fusion with both color and monochrome shooting capabilities while the secondary camera boasts 13 MP with wide-angle, phase detection autofocus.

Nokia 8 has Dual-Sight feature which combines video input on both rear and back cameras in real time by splitting the screen. It is also available on image capture. For video recording, Nokia installed the OZO that captures sound in a 360-degree space around the device and uses three high dynamic range microphones to achieve very high-quality audio on recorded videos. Nokia 8 is also capable of recording 4K videos while using OZO.
