Linkin Park Singer Chester Bennington Takes Own Life; Troubled Childhood Made Him 'Insane For A Little While'

The rock music scene has just lost one of its sons as Chester Bennington - lead singer of Linkin Park - passed away Thursday morning from an apparent suicide. Reports said that the singer hung himself inside his Palos Verdes Estates home in Los Angeles.

Bennington has been very vocal about his alcohol and substance abuse in the past. Moreover, in previous interviews, the Linkin Park vocals revealed that he once thought of taking his own life as his troubled childhood still haunts him.

The Linkin Park front man sat down with The Guardian way back in 2011 stating that "getting beaten up and pretty much raped was no fun," CNN cited. Bennington added that he can still remember all of those and such makes him want to cry just by thinking about it. He even went on saying that it's no wonder that he "went insane for a little while."

One of Bennington's close friends - Soundgarden and Audioslave lead singer Chris Cornell - also committed suicide back in May. The Linkin Park lead was even spotted at the latter's funeral as he sung "Hallelujah."

Linkin Park co-lead vocals Mike Shinoda took to Twitter to announce the tragedy that struck the band. It can be remembered that Shinoda sat down with Radio.com as he recalls the time that they learned Cornell's passing while promoting "One More Light." He said that Bennington was getting choked up during rehearsals and by the time they are performing the song, the singer just stopped towards the end of it. Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, on the other hand, also tweeted that he was deeply saddened by Bennington's passing.

The Linkin Park singer was survived by his six kids and his wife Talinda. He was 41. Check out a video about Bennington here:
