Stan Lee, 94, and his family are mourning the death of Joan Lee, 93. The wife of the Marvel Comics legend reportedly suffered a stroke recently and had been hospitalized before her death in Los Angeles on July 6, Thursday.

"I can confirm the sad news that Joan Lee passed away this morning quietly and surrounded by her family," a spokesperson for the Lee family said in a statement obtained by Variety. "The family ask that you please give them time to grieve and respect their privacy during this difficult time."

Joan was a former British hat model. She married an American soldier during World War II but they got divorced shortly after.

On Dec. 5, 1947, Joan and Stan got married. After their wedding, they moved to New York, where Stan worked for Timely/Atlas Comics, which is now known as Marvel Comics.

In 1981, Joan and Stan moved to California, where the latter developed Marvel TV and film works. The former voiced Miss Forbes and Madame Web, respectively, on the 1990s animated Marvel shows "Fantastic Four" and "Spider-Man."

In 1987, Joan wrote a novel titled "The Pleasure Palace," which was about a man's mission to create the world's most luxurious ocean liner while simultaneously balancing three romances. In 2016, she played a role in "X-Men: Apocalypse."

On the other hand, Stan had more than 30 film cameo appearances. Weeks before the death of his wife, he delivered the commencement speech for the UCLA Extension program in Westwood.

During the event, Stan was asked about his cameo role in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which will premiere on July 7, Friday. As always, he said he was not allowed to reveal his upcoming cameo role in an interview with Los Angeles Daily News.

In the same interview, Stan mentioned how lucky he was to have friends that he liked and a wife that he loved. For him, every day is a new adventure.
