EXO’s D.O., Girls’ Generation’s Yoona Win At 2017 Korean Movie Shining Star Awards

The two recipients of the Rookie of the Year Award at the recently concluded 2017 Korean Movie Shining Star Awards are members of K-Pop groups. They are Do Kyung Soo and Im Yoon Ah, whose respective screen names are D.O. and YoonA.

D.O. is one of the nine members of EXO while YoonA is one of the eight members of Girls' Generation. The Rookie of the Year Award was given to D.O. for his role in "My Annoying Brother" and to YoonA for her role in "Confidential Assignment."

In D.O.'s acceptance speech, he made a promise that he will gain more experience and work harder to become a better actor.  On the other hand, YoonA was not able to attend the ceremony so "Confidential Assignment" director Kim Sung Hoon accepted the award on her behalf, Soompi reported.

Before "My Annoying Brother," D.O. played Choi Tae Young in "Cart" in 2014 and Beom Sil in "Pure Love" in 2016. He also played the lead character Hwan Dong in the web drama series "Be Positive" on Naver TV Cast in 2016.

As for YoonA, "Confidential Assignment" marks her first film role. On the small screen, she starred in "God of War, Zhao Yun" and "The K2" in 2016 and is set to play one of the lead roles in "The King in Love," which will premiere on MBC on July 17.

Both EXO and Girls' Generation were included in the list of 25 most active K-pop artists on Tumblr in 2017 based on data from Jan. 1 to June 28, according to Billboard. EXO ranked number two, failing to beat BTS at the top spot, while Girls' Generation ranked number 15.

The acts that were in between EXO and Girls' Generation's ranks were GOT7, Seventeen, Monsta X, B.A.P, SHINee, NCT 127, Twice, VIXX, BIGBANG, Blackpink, Red Velvet and G-Dragon. Also in the list are MAMAMOO, DAY6, NCT Dream, iKON, f(x), T.O.P, NCT U, GFriend, Pristin and K.A.R.D.
