'Game Of Thrones' Season 8 Might Be Delayed; HBO Clears Up Details On Prequel Spinoffs

After a long wait, “Game of Thrones” Season 7 is finally just right around the corner as its scheduled premiere date approaches. The new season will be airing fewer episodes compared to the earlier seasons but at least there are longer episodes to look forward to. However, it seems like fans will have to wait a little longer to see the final season of the said HBO show.

HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys revealed on Entertainment Weekly that “Game of Thrones” Season 8 will most likely be postponed to 2019. That means there will be a one-year delay since the production has already announced that they have slated the last season to show next year. Cast and production even shared that filming for the final season will take place as early as September this year, shortly after the seventh season ends, which is in August.

Bloys explained that show runners D. B. Weiss and David Benioff still need to write the episodes and figure out the schedule of the production. They are well aware of how each season of “Game of Thrones” is better than the previous one so they’re keen on making the greatest final season of the show since it’s monumental. He revealed that there will be great battles in “Game of Thrones” Season 7 and he already imagined what the final season would look like.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8, whether or not it will air next year, will only have six episodes. Meanwhile, Bloys puts light on the anticipated prequel spinoffs of “Game of Thrones”, which George R.R. Martin insists are successor shows. Though the spinoff shows have already been confirmed, Bloys said that they still have to see the scripts since their current goal is making “Game of Thrones” the best show out there. There were five spinoffs announced but Bloys pointed out that there is a possibility that only one will be aired and because “Game of Thrones” has set the bar so high, he hopes that the chosen spinoff lives up to the show’s success.
