The latest chapter of the popular “One Piece” manga series has been released. It finally reveals the real story about Mother Caramel and Big Mom’s connection. The ongoing Whole Cake Island Arc delves into a flashback of how Charlotte Linlin became the feared yonko she is now.

“One Piece” Chapter 867 brought readers to a flashback and finally revealed the connection between Mother Caramel and Charlotte Linlin, otherwise known as Big Mom. Mother Caramel has been a pivotal point in the Whole Cake Island Arc since her photo was Big Mom’s only weakness. In an attempt to save Sanji and his family, Luffy entered into an alliance with Capone Bege to stop Sanji’s wedding and bring down Big Mom once and for all.

Fans have always been curious about the story behind Mother Caramel and why she had a huge effect on Big Mom. It turns out, “One Piece” revealed that Mother Caramel, contrary to how she is portrayed, is actually a woman who deals in selling orphans while running an orphanage. Her motherly smile and nun-like clothes were actually a façade, covering her true interests of establishing relationships with powerful people for her to gain interest.

Big Mom, who was known as Charlotte Linlin then, was abandoned by her parents when she was just five years old and was taken in by Mother Caramel. Despite Mother Caramel’s true intentions, she actually had a soft spot for Linlin, even tolerating the troubles Linlin has caused. Linlin also grew fond of Mother Caramel and found the mother in her that she never had.

“One Piece” Chapter 867 then concludes that Mother Caramel has also been keeping Linlin with her because she thought the child’s power will be of use to her. However, Mother Caramel decided to sell Linlin and promised herself that it would be her last deal. On Linlin’s sixth birthday, Mother Caramel and the other children somehow suddenly disappeared. Their disappearance hints that Mother Caramel died and since her death, her devil fruit Soru Soru no Mi left her and was later eaten by Linlin.
