Seventeen Wins #1 For ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’ On SBS MTV's The Show
Seventeen had their comeback stage for 'Don't Wanna Cry' on SBS MTV's The Show on its May 30 broadcast. The group also won #1, their first win on MTV's The Show, and also a first for their comeback song.
Seventeen went against nominees DIA and senior group VIXX, but took home the award at the end of the show. During their thank you speech, the members said, "First of all, we would like to thank our fans. We would also like to thank our members' families and everyone in our agency."
The 13-member group performed again for the encore performance and tried to form a huge heart together with their hands, but cutely failed. During a previous press conference for their comeback, Seventeen promised that if they win #1 for 'Don't Wanna Cry' on music shows, they will take off their shoes and go barefoot onstage. It seems like the boys were caught off guard with their win that they forgot their promise and did a huge heart instead. They also changed the lyrics to their song, replacing it with "Carats, I love you" as they did their encore stage.
The boys of Seventeen were interviewed backstage and were asked how they felt coming back with a more mellow song. They said, "We returned with the title song 'Don't Wanna Cry' since we felt that although the younger generation appears happy at times, they, too, feel sad moments from time to time."
Carats, or Seventeen fans, were overjoyed and #DontWannaCry1stWin immediately trended worldwide on Twitter. Fans posted congratulatory messages for the boys, saying, "Let's make more wins this era", and "All the bruises your knees acquired, all the sleepless nights, all the worries, all the courage. It's all worth it."
This isn't the first time Seventeen has won #1 on a music show. The boys took home their first-ever music show win for 'Pretty U' on MBC Music's Show Champion in April last year. Screenshots of the boys' crying and tear-stricken faces floated and circulated around the web and were even used as memes. They boys went on to win 4 more times, including 3 wins for their previous song, 'Boom Boom'. Congratulations, Seventeen!
