“Sherlock” Season 5: Is There Any Possibility For The Show To Come?

Fans witnessed the finale episode of "Sherlock" called "The Final Problem" earlier this month. They have been anticipating the arrival of "Sherlock" Season 5 since. From that time on, several conflicting reports regarding Sherlock's future has been emerging online. Questions such as whether the show will actually be renewed for the next season still remains unanswered.

According to a recent report published by The Telegraph, "Sherlock" series writer Steven Moffat was heard saying back in 2016 that it is highly unlikely that the "Sherlock" Season 5 will come. Although, he added by saying that the "Sherlock" team members are constantly thrilled and amazed by people's enthusiasm for the show and that they hope to carry the tag along as long as they possibly can.

However, during an interview with Digital Spy, Steven Moffat was heard saying that it's the end for Sherlock's future, at least as far as chapter one is concerned. Both Sherlock and Dr. Watson have become wiser ever since Doyle's unexpected demise. He further added by suggesting that whether they add a chapter two or not, is something that is still in the discussion process. 

According to another report published by Den Of Geek, Benedict Cumberbatch has at many occasions, expressed his desire to play the role of Sherlock Holmes during his old age. Reports suggest he wants the "Sherlock" Season 5 to come. However, as much as the idea of him playing Sherlock Holmes in old age sounds appealing, no official confirmation suggesting that this might actually happen has been out as yet.

In case "Sherlock" Season 5 actually takes place, then there is more than one route that the show's future episodes can venture upon. There are a lot of possibilities that can be given a run-through. Knowing how the show-runners believe in launching the seasons with a major gap in between, it is safe to assume that the show's fifth season might not come out anytime soon either.
