Apple iPhone 8 Update: After Headphone Jack, Apple To Ditch Home Button In iPhone 8
Apple is preparing its launch for both, WWDC events, as well as the upcoming special event of September wherein the Cupertino tech-giant, will be marking 10th-year-anniversary with its iPhone flagship smartphone. What's interesting to note is that rumors and speculations regarding the upcoming iPhone 8 have already made it to the internet. On a similar note, Apple is rumored to be planning to ditch the home button from the upcoming iPhone 8 as well.
According to a report published by BGR, new rumors regarding the Apple iPhone 8 suggest that the company appears to have patented a design wherein the home button is missing altogether. Several big news publications have been quick to pick up this news. Moreover, this is the second big feature that Apple will be ditching after its headphone jack back in September 2016 with the iPhone 7, 7 Plus flagship smartphones.
According to reports, it appears like a source mentioned by the Chinese-language Economic Daily News has confirmed the fact that Apple is planning on ditching the home button in the upcoming iPhone 8. Moreover, the report even goes on to suggest that mass production of the iPhone 8 along with iPhone 7 have already begun as well.
As far as the home button is concerned, Apple is reportedly replacing the physical button with a fingerprint sensor that will come embedded in the screen. This will allow faster and easier authentication towards unlocking the iPhone device. In other words, the physical home button won't consist of a Touch ID sensor but only the Touch ID sensor without the physical button.
This also further nullifies the rumor wherein Apple was speculated to be shifting the location of its fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. However, none of the above-given information has been confirmed by Apple as yet.
