The Surface Phone may have been unheard of in the past recent months. However, a new leak has surfaced and it opens up the possibility that there is indeed a new Windows Phone coming up soon. Apparently, the upcoming Surface Phone could sport a super high-end display, at least according to the patent application made by Microsoft.

According to the patent, Microsoft can now use a Dual Display on its next device wherein one side will have a regular screen while the other side will be using e-paper. The e-paper part can then fold out or transform into a keyboard whenever needed. With that said, the Type Cover accessory that the Surface products are known for can finally be replaced by such technology. Nevertheless, since this patent can work for both tablets and phones, it could be used for the Surface Phone or the Surface Pro 5.

As far as the second screen of the alleged Surface Phone is concerned, the patent says that it could also control music choices. Album thumbnail arts will be laid out on there for the users to go pick from. On top of that, the second screen could also be used in games, wherein the display would turn into buttons and controls and work interactively with the primary display.

The patent was filed way back in 2016, Express UK reported. This means that the technology could be well in development in the past months and is prepping up for a big launch in the future. Nevertheless, as mentioned, this technology could be created either for the Surface Pro line or the Surface Phone. With Microsoft being relatively mum on the matters regarding their upcoming Windows Phone, the only way to confirm these is by waiting for the company's announcement. Additionally, it is also worth noting that not all tech patents end up materializing, so there is also a chance that applications like this gets shelved for a long period of time.
