‘Monster’ Live-Action Movie ‘Out Of HBO;’ Creator Guillermo Del Toro Release Statement!
Live-Action "Monster" will not be on HBO anymore, according to famous director, Guillermo del Toro. The director had given information on what has happened with the long awaited live action adaptation during an interview for the gothic romance film "Crimson Peak", according to Crunchyroll.
In the past, news spread that del Toro, famous writer and director of popular movies "Pacific Rim" and "Hellboy", will be adapting this famous psychological horror/thriller manga and anime into a live action movie. He first pitched it to HBO at that time.
It was rumored for months that HBO had passed on the adaptation, according to sources. This was now confirmed by the director himself in the interview, according to sources.
"No, it's out of HBO, and now we're going to take it to other places but it's not active active until we pitch it," according to del Toro. "We are going to other companies to pitch it and see if anyone wants to do it"
"We finished writing a couple of the episodes, and so we have a sampler. We're going to go and see what happens with that, but very likely that will happen somewhere next year," del Toro continues in his interview.
New Line Cinema has also acquired the feature film rights to the manga in 2005. It was also assigned to a writer, Josh Olson. Olson wrote "Batman: Gotham Knight" and New Line Cinema wanted him to write two possible films, according to AnimeNewsNetwork. The project grew too big for Olson. This is where del Toro convinced Naoki Urasawa, Monster's creator, to allow him to get the job.
The live-action "Monster" film will now be offered to other companies as said by del Toro. Viz Media has published the "Monster" manga and also other titles made by Urasawa in the US.
