Taeyang’s Older Brother Happens To Be An Actor
Crooner Taeyang might be boasting a huge international fan base but many of these fans still don't know that his only brother also happens to be in the entertainment industry. Dong Hyun Bae, his older brother of five years, has in fact been in the acting field for the past 11 years. That's about as long as Big Bang has been around rocking the K-Pop and global music scene.
Dong Hyun Bae kicked off his acting career when he appeared in the 2006 movie "Love's Greeting." He also appeared in the films "The Commitment," "Miss Staff Sergeant," "Mai Ratima" and "Han Gong Ju." His drama appearances include tvN's "Shut up Flower Boy Band" and JTBC's "Age of Youth."
The 33-year-old actor doesn't deny his younger brother's immense popularity that inevitably overshadows his own career as an actor. He admitted during an interview last year that people know him more as "Taeyang's older brother" rather than "actor Dong Hyun Bae." He claimed he's not one to complain.
"Because he's family, I don't hate [being known as Taeyang's older brother]," Dong Hyun Bae said, according to Soompi. He's already resigned to the fact that he may never surpass his younger brother's fame, at least in this lifetime, but that doesn't mean he's also given up on his own dreams. He said, "But as I consistently appear in dramas and films, I think that [the label of Taeyang's older brother] will gradually disappear, and I will make my mark as actor Dong Hyun Bae."
He also made a guest appearance on MBC's "Radio Star" last year where he talked about his relationship with Taeyang and how the Big Bang star almost brought him to tears. He recounted how his younger brother showed up in one of his plays, took pictures with him and the cast and then uploaded them on social media to promote to his fans. Dong Hyun Bae appeared in the movie "The Commitment" with his brother's Big Bang bandmate T.O.P., who spoke of him like his own brother.
