South Korean tech firm Samsung is indeed pushing the limits this time around as the company is reported to release a prototype of what could be the world's first foldable smartphone. Reports are now suggesting that the company, together with its screen display manufacturing arm are both working round the clock in developing such technology as rival companies are hot on the trail.

On March 13, both Samsung and Samsung Display set a self-imposed deadline to themselves in making the first foldable display to be applied on their future devices. The best thing about this, however, is that it is revealed that both entities of the South Korean conglomerate are in the final stages of the technology's development and it is believed to be announced during the third quarter of 2017, Etnews has learned.

Nonetheless, rival tech firms in China are in hot pursuit of making the same know-how as they too are after the distinction of being the first in devising such component. Companies such as Visionox, BOE, and AUO are said to be developing the same bendable OLED panel and are said to be working on fellow Chinese phone makers like Oppo, Lenovo, and VIVO.

Going back, Samsung is believed to be producing a substantial number of bendable OLED prototypes and will conduct tests and at the same time roll out samples to major network providers. If the turnout of such would gain positive feedbacks. It is likely that consumers will be seeing foldable Samsung handsets by 2018.

Meanwhile, Samsung's upcoming "Unpacked" event in New York nears as they are about to release their latest flagship smartphone - the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. Apart from the expected curved edge display and being almost bezel-less, the handset is rumored to don a special face recognition feature that allows payments via Samsung pay.

However, it is said that the feature will not be introduced at the time of Galaxy S8's launch. Instead, the revolutionary attribute will be shelled out in the following months after it was released, Mirror has learned. Watch a video of Samsung's bendable concept phone here:
