Hyundai Motor Co.'s small SUV 'Creta', released in July, is the best-selling model in India - which ranks fourth in the world's car market. According to a data gathered by the company, there were 6,783 units sold the previous month, making it the number one best-selling SUV among the 23 models sold recently in the country.

What's more, it ranks ninth in terms of highest sales despite the fact that it has only been one month since its launch. It has beaten Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster's records during their debut month.

An official at Hyundai has commented to this, saying, "The introduction of the Creta is anticipated to create an SUV boom in India."

The mini SUV's sudden popularity has helped Hyundai's overall sales in the Indian car market increase by 24.7% at 36,503 units sold last month. On the other hand, the company's cumulative sales in the first seven months of 2015 are up by 10.1% at 260,464 units sold compared to last year's figures. This improvement has softened the impact of its plummeting sales in China, considered the world's biggest car market.

India's top eight best-sellers are compact and city cars, accounting for 21.7% and 50% (respectively) of the total sales.

Creta has been highly anticipated in India, with 15,000 pre-orders and more than 32,000 post-launch orders that lasted until August 17. The demand has been overwhelming that Hyundai needed to produce more than its standard 5,000 units per month. It increased its target by 40% to 7,000 units.
