Showrunner of 'Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders' Erica Messer may have centered on the globe-trotting cases of IRT on its first season. However, it will face a great change on its upcoming season which will be premiered on Wednesday.

"We wanted to establish the case-of-the-week element [in Season 1], and now that we have, it allows us to get into these people a little bit more in Season 2," Erica Messer explained to TVGuide.com. "Now that you know the show, let's get to know the people."

'Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders' Season 1 has already dropped hint about this so for many, it may not be a surprise anymore. This has been visible when it introduced Karen (Sherry Stringfield), the wife of Jack Garrett (Gary Sinise) as their daughter has gone to college. The upcoming Season 2, meanwhile, will allow its viewers to meet their son Ryan (Matt Cohen), an undercover agent and a recently FBI academy grad.

"We have a nice way to start that off where Jack Garrett is at church with his family and you get to meet his oldest son," Messer suggested. "We'll get to see Ryan Garrett throughout the season and that's sort of new for us to have a recurring guest star and come play with the IRT a little bit."
Erica Messer also said that Sinise's role is something close to his heart, especially upon knowing that his character is a family man while in real life, he is married to his high school sweetheart with his six kids.

The upcoming season of 'Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders' will become more intense as the young agent will the regret if he follows his father's footstep and at the same time, the desire to learn from the elders. As Messer says, this will serve as a good backdrop for them to go over the family drama.
