"Saimdang, Light's Diary" started strong as it clinched the top spot in viewership ratings in its first and second episodes alone.

The joint forces of Hallyu stars Song Seung Heon and Lee Young Ae in the new historic drama proves to be a force to behold as their new drama easily becomes the viewers' choice.

According to Soompi, Nielsen Korea reported Friday that the new SBS drama "Saimdang, Light's Diary" soared through the number one spot with its first two episodes. The first episode garnered 15.6 percent while the second inched higher with 16.3 percent viewership ratings.

"Saimdang, Light's Diary" replaced "The Legend of the Blue Sea" starred by another two-star couple Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun which achieved 16.4 percent ratings on episode one and scored 17.9 percent in its finale.

"Saimdang" is a comeback to the small screen for its two leading actors.

Lee Youg Ae, 45, last appeared in a drama on "Dang Jang Geum" 13 years ago while the 40-year-old star of "Autumn in my Heart" last appeared in the 2013 series "When A Man Falls In Love."

The actor confessed what it was like to return to the small screen again.

"It's my debut after a few years of absence from the small screen so it's been a nerve-wracking experience. Saimdang is a period drama which is why I had to do a lot of preparation," said the actor.

Song Seung Heon also revealed Lee Young Ae made him nervous as he acted alongside her.

"I was so nervous, I kept messing up," said the actor in a press conference for the drama. "I couldn't say my lines properly. I kept asking myself, 'What's wrong with you?' It felt like I returned to my rookie days as an actor. My heart was beating so fast. It's become a memory filled with many on-set mistakes."
