'Produce 101 Season 2' Pushes Through Amidst Main Director’s Resignation
Mnet director Han Dong Chul, who was known to handle the overall directing of the male version of 'Produce 101', resigned from the show. Mnet, however, announced that 'Produce 101 Season 2' is still pushing through amidst the director's resignation.
"The male version of 'Produce 101' will proceed as planned," Mnet confirmed.
Director Han Dong Chul said that he was planning on doing a new program, thus, he couldn't handle 'Produce 101 Season 2' anymore.
"I'm currently planning a new program personally, and I think details will be more confirmed in February. After that, I'll see if I can produce it myself, or if I need help from another company. I have no plans for where I will be employed in the future," said the director.
When asked about 'Produce 101 Season 2', Director Han Dong Chul said that he cannot give any details since he already left the show. He was sure, however, that the staff is currently working hard to make the show successful.
"I have left, so I cannot say anything in detail. However, I know the staff is working hard. I'm looking forward to it as well," he said.
'Produce 101' is originally a reality girl group survival show on Mnet. It is a large-scale project in which the public "produces" a unit girl group by choosing members from a pool of 101 trainees from 46 entertainment companies. The audience also got to choose the group's concept, debut song, as well as the group name. It is said to have the second-largest among all the Mnet produced shows which is said to be about 4 billion won or 3.4 million US dollars.
'Produce 101' ran from January 22 to April 1, 2016.
Viewers are excited to hear about the male version of 'Produce 101'. They said they couldn't wait any longer for the show's second season to start.
