Fans have been eager to see the reunion of Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev on screen in the season 8 of "The Vampire Diaries". However, it may also include the death of a major character.

Recently Julie Plec, the series creator had hinted at the death of one of the main characters. This has led fans to believe that this will pave way for the much-awaited "Delena" reunion on screen, reported Mobile & Apps.

In the upcoming episode of The CW show entitled, "The Simply Intimacy of the Near Tough," Bonnie will be faced with the tough decision of transforming into a vampire, reports Carter Matt.

In the episode, Bonnie will be returning from the vacation with a bottle of Enzo's blood. This will leave Caroline wondering if she should proceed with the transformation.  As viewers might recall, Elena was forced into a deep sleep, which can only be broken with Bonnie's death. Thus, viewers believe that with Bonnie's transformation to a vampire, Elena can be awakened. However, this is just speculation at this stage, and viewers will have to watch to know if the ruse works.

In addition, Plec has mentioned that there will be turmoil in the second part of finale season, as Stefan and Damon are working on the other side.

"Stefan's never been good with temptation while in ripper mode," Julie added. "We know from past experience that Stefan has a threshold, and it'll be Damon's job to monitor his brother and make sure he stays on the good side of that threshold. If he crosses it, there's a risk of losing him forever."

According to Paul Wesley, who plays the role of Stefan Salvatore, the death of both Damon and Stefan would be the perfect ending to the show.

"[We could] just sit on a beach all night drinking Caribbean rum, and when the sun comes up, [share] one last toast, give each other a hug, take off their rings and throw them into the water," he added.

"The Vampire Diaries" returns to the CW on Friday, Jan. 13 at 8PM ET.
