Netizen Criticized for Accusing Red Velvet of Using Lolita Concept for Russian Roulette
A netizen was criticized after trying to argue and convince other netizens that the current concept of SM Entertainment's girl group Red Velvet for their promotions of "Russian Roulette" is Lolita-themed.
Lolita is a term coined to refer to a concept which shows a young and innocent-looking female who shows a very sexual appearance or behaves in a very sexual way.
In an article, allkpop reported that in an online community post titled "Red Velvet swept up in controversy with their Lolita-themed elements," the netizen posted various screenshot photos from the group's newest music video and other so-called "proofs" to emphasize that the artists used the Lolita theme.
The "proofs" include "A space reminiscent of a school environment, the cliché vault props and 'Bulma' outfits," "The blank expression, hand position, childlike attire, and the downward angle," "Children's wear on Irene," "The album photos, the Lolitaesque poses of raising your legs in a skirt," and the "Angle that draws your eyes to the legs of Irene who is wearing a short skirt."
However, other netizens are not convinced with the arguments of the post. Many were questioning and cynical, and some even left sarcastic comments on the post. One comment read, "According to the OP's logic, G-Friend must be Lolita, too, since they wore gym clothes; Orange Caramel must be also Lolita since they wore princess-like flared skirts while holding up dolls; Lovelyz have to be Lolita since they also emphasized their legs on their album; Girl's Day only wore swimsuits so they must be Lolita; man, it must be so hard to look for a group without a Lolita concept."
Other comments stated, "Wait, what? How are those children's clothes? Those pieces are clothing for adults sold on 'Gucci'. So if they wear it in a princess-like fashion, it is automatically Lolita?," "Just what kind of thoughts are going through your head that you'd think gym clothes are Lolita? And those clothes are for adults that are for sale on 'Gucci'. I think your thoughts are too wrapped up in Lolita. Thanks for reminding me that there are dumbasses in this world," "Sigh, OP! Please go die choking on some food," "You have written such bullshit so sincerely," and more.
