Google to drop Nexus?

Google is rumored to drop its current flagship phone Nexus.

Daily Mail cited reports from Android Police speculating that Google will carry Pixel and Pixel XL handsets to be released on October 4. Reports also suggest that former Google phones codename Marlin and Sailfish will be out in the market as Pixel and Pixel XL. These will measure 5.0 and 5.5 inches, respectively.

Tech Times squealed the price tags of Nexus 5X and 6P successors. Pixel will be sold for $449 while Pixel XL costs $599. Both units are with 32 GB storage capacity.

Google is also rumored to hold an event to introduce the new HTC-built hardware. Reports claim that this Pixel hardware is different from previously released devices.

Apart from Pixel, 4K Chromecast device is also expected on the introductory event. It will be named either Chromecast Ultra or Chromecast Plus. The first generation Chromecast garnered better sales compared to competitor, Apple TV

Despite speculations of being dropped, Nexus users can still expect Google's new features in their phones. According to reports, Nexus will include a WiFi Assistant that automatically connects handsets to available free hotspots.

Currently, WiFi Assistant is exclusively included in Google's Project Fi phone service.

Google guarantees browsing safety in WiFi Assistant feature because it uses a virtual private network (VPN). Handsets are installed with a feature that determines whether a hotspot is safe even without manual checking.

In addition, Daydream View, a VR viewer device along with Google Home Smart speaker will also be exhibited during the show. The speaker does not only plays music but also connects with Google Assistant which can work like a search engine upon a text or verbal command. The company hired YouTube celebrities to promote the product.

It is presumed that Google's new hardware will be unveiled on October 4 to mark the holiday shopping season.
