Mel Gibson confirms "The Passion of the Christ" sequel.

Mel Gibson confirmed the  ongoing work for "The Passion of the Christ" sequel titled "The Resurrection."

In his talks with Greg Laurie of SoCal Harvest, Gibson emphasized that the sequel will concentrate on the story of Jesus' resurrection, Fox News reported. The "Braveheart," "Gallipoli," and "Lethal Weapon" star added that the upcoming movie will be a big project and "needs to be looked at because we don't want to just do a simple rendering of it."

"The Passion of the Christ" was Hollywood's biggest movie in 2004 and received positive reviews especially from evangelical communities. Several controversies were also thrown at the movie including the anti-Semitic allegation, Daily Mail recalled.  It was also criticized by the Anti-Defamation League claiming that the movie had insufficient "scholarly and theological understanding."

It was based on Christian Theology and Christ's arrival in Jerusalem and death in the crucifix on Mount Calvary. The movie shot in Italy starred Jim Caviezel, Monica Bellucci and Maia Morgenstern earned over $611 worldwide.

Gibson was part of the production of the first movie. He was co-writer, director and producer of the international hit. Writer Randall Wallace also confirmed that he will become part of the sequel. He expressed his interest in the movie saying that he "always wanted to tell this story." He added, "The Passion is the beginning and there's a lot more story to tell."

Announcement about casting has not been revealed. It is still a question whether original casts, Caviezel and Bellucci will play the same roles.

Wallace also disclosed the possibility of Gibson directing the sequel. Both of them worked on a project "Hacksaw Ridge" which is a World War II drama about a conscientious objector who received a Medal of Honor from President Truman. Gibson is currently promoting the said movie with co-stars, Andrew Garfield, Teresa Palmer and Sam Worthington.
