IGN reported that Netflix has renewed their surprise hit Stranger Things for a second season set for a 2017 release.

Matt and Ross Duffer -- the Duffer brothers -- will return as the show's writers for Season 2 . Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will also come back as executive producers

Matt and Ross Duffer,  the twin-brother duo co-creators of the show, told Entertainment Weekly that the second season will have nine episodes, one episode longer than the first season.

They also confirmed the hope of fans that the entire main cast will return: Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), although the return of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is unsure, with Ross Duffer stating, "we leave that up in the air."

Fans will be delighted to know that according to Matt Duffer four new characters will join the show saying "there's going to be a lot of new and interesting dynamics that we didn't see in Season One."

The Duffers said that they are creating season two similar to making a sequel of a blockbuster movie saying that it "feels different but retains the magic of the original similar to what James Cameron has done with films like Aliens and Terminator 2.

Matt Duffer also said that the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana will not be the only location in Stranger Things: Season 2. To cite an example, Duffer said that season two's premiere opening scene will not take place in the Indiana-set town.
