"Stranger Things" Season 2 coming in 2017

After Netflix announced that the hit supernatural thriller series "Stranger Things" has been officially renewed for another season, fans have begun wondering what might come next for the sleepy little town of Hawkins, Indiana and now the show's creators have revealed some of the details coming in the show's return.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, "Stranger Things" creators Matt and Ross Duffer, also known collectively as the Duffer Brothers, said that the show's season 2 will be a direct continuation of the storyline.

Revealing that though they discussed bringing the season into a later date than 1984, they eventually landed on just continuing the story and exploring more of what the 80's might have. This means that the "Stranger Things" main cast will return for the next chapter in the series, ar at least most of them.

Those confirmed to be returning by the Duffers are star Winona Ryder, who plays Joyce; Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike; Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin. Meanwhile they said that Millie Bobby Brown's return as Eleven is "up in the air," likely due to her ambiguous fate at the end of the first season.

Alongside the original cast's return will also be a host of new faces showing up, with a total of about four of new characters arriving in Hawkins. Some believe that the nature of at least one of those new characters has already been spoiled a little by the teaser that Netflix recently released. The teaser showed the titles of all the second season's episodes, with the last one being "The Lost Brother," suggesting that said brother might very well be one of those new characters.

As for the tone this upcoming season will take, the Duffer Brothers noted that they plan to continue the pattern of designing the season after movies. For season 2 of "Stranger Things," the Duffers are reportedly looking to James Cameron for influence as someone who can make blockbuster sequels despite the common occurrence of film follow-ups deteriorating in quality.

"There's 'Temple of Doom,' 'Aliens,' 'Terminator 2.' I guess a lot of this is James Cameron. But he's brilliant," said Matt Duffer. "And I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original. So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work."

"Stranger Things" season 2 is currently planned to be released sometime in 2017 by Netflix.
