Daniel Radcliffe to return for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child"?

The Boy Who Lived might be making his return to the big screen soon with Warner Bros. apparently planning to continue the main "Harry Potter" film series by adapting the stage play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" as a distant sequel with producers eyeing the possible return of Daniel Radcliffe to his iconic role.

The New York Daily News reported that sources close to the proceedings claim that the people who own the "Harry Potter" intellectual property are thinking of adapting the West End stage play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" off of the stage and onto the movie theaters.

To those unfamiliar with the work, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is a distant sequel to the original "Harry Potter" book series by J.K. Rowling with the author herself taking part in the story's formulation process.

Essentially the eight story of the main series after "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" tells the story of the now adult Harry who has a prolific career as an auror and become the head of the Magical Law Enforcement department at the Ministry of Magic. Alongside dealing with his responsibilities as a government employee, Harry is also a father of three children, all of whom are either in Hogwarts or beginning their years there, and a husband to his school sweetheart Ginny Weasley.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" also tells the tale of Harry's youngest son, Albus Severus. While Harry himself has to deal with his past refusing to stay where it should, his son Albus has his own troubles in trying to live up to the legacy of said past as the son of the one who defeated Lord Voldemort.

The people working on the planned film version of the play are reportedly aiming to get the film made as early as 2020. They also reportedly have their sights set on getting Daniel Radcliffe back onto the production, though this prospect is meeting with some issues.

The primary issue is that Radcliffe has actually spent a long time trying to distance himself from his breakout and defining role as Harry Potter, though he has kept himself open to the prospect of returning for the eight film.

"Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry," said the sources. "However he has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon - and that could be until he hits 40."

Ironically, Radcliffe waiting until he's about 40 years old before coming back to play the role might be more fitting considering Harry in the "Cursed Child" is aged 37; meaning that getting the film made by 2020 would mean the 27-year-old actor would be too young to play the supposed father of three. Although that could at least be remedied with a little CGI magic.
