American NFL Player Disrespects US Flag and Country Refused to Stand During National Anthem
A US National Football League (NFL) quarterback refused to stand and adamantly stayed seated when the national anthem was played as a way to protest racial injustice in the country the BBC reports.
The NFL quarterback who is under the spotlight is 29 year old Colin Kaepernick who comes from the San Francisco 49ers.
"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Colin Kaepernick explained.
Kaepernick's efforts to make a statement against racial discrimination incurred jeering and mockery for his behavior because many considered his actions as also discriminatory.
Fans booed him when he entered the field to play.
Strangely, the management and players of the San Francisco 49ers did not dissuade Kaepernick and instead gave full support for his queer protest.
"We recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem," the team spokesman told BBC.
Kaepernick has been very vocal in expressing and discussing race issues on social media. He is also a fervent supporter of the "Black Lives Matter" movement.
"To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder,'' He told NFL Media.
