The cast of the long awaited sequel to the legendary dystopian speculative fiction Ridley Scott cult classic 1982 film "Blade Runner" just got larger, with the most recent addition being the real life Clown Prince of Crime himself; Jared Leto.

Reports indicate that the "Dallas Buyers Club" star officially just signed on for the film as announced by Alcon Entertainment, the film production company working on the sequel. Jared Leto will be joining the likes of Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista in the follow up to the cult classic "Blade Runner."

Apparently, Leto will be playing a "key role" in the "Blade Runner" sequel, according to a press release statement released by Alcon co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. The company said they "are thrilled that Jared has agreed to play a key role in the Blade Runner sequel," adding that Jared Leto is a phenomenal actor, and we know he will create a truly memorable, never before seen character."

Jared Leto's acting dossier lists a substantial amount of appearances in prominent films like the similarly cult classic 199 film "Fight Club." His most prominent work was in the 2013 biographical drama "Dallas Buyers Club," which is based on the story of real life AIDS patient Ron Woodroof played by Matthew McConaughey. Leto famously played the character Rayon, a trans woman with HIV and a fictional character specifically made for the film.

More recently, Jared Leto famously played the latest film adaptation of the legendary DC Comics' supervillain Joker in the DC Extended Universe film "Suicide Squad."

As for the "Blade Runner" sequel, the film currently has no title. The original film was a substantially modified film adaptation of the Philip K. Dick novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and starred Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a role he will be reprising in the sequel.

So far, Ford's character is the only one with any concrete information as there is scarce information regarding the "Blade Runner" sequel at this time. Other known information is that the film will take place decades after the first "Blade Runner," and that is planned for release in October of next year.

Helming the film as director is Denis Villenueve, taking over from Ridley Scott. The script was written by Hampton Fencher and Michael Green, with Hampton returning after writing the screenplay for the first one while Green is known for his work on the 2011 "Green Lantern" film.

The currently untitled "Blade Runner" sequel is set to hit theaters in October 6, 2017.
