After filing bankruptcy in 2012 and closing its doors soon afterward, game developer and publisher THQ has returned under the new Nordic THQ rebrand; with the announcement indicating that the new studio has about a dozen of titles in-development, among which is the long awaited new entry in the "Darksiders" franchise.

THQ filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in 2012, a move that was brought about after the studio ended up defaulting on about $50 million on its loans. The studio then began liquidating its assets, with Nordic Games eventually acquiring many of the defunct studio's trademarks and properties in 2013.

Among the many of THQ's more popular assets that were acquired by Nordic were the "Darksiders" and "Red Faction" series, although news on the development of further installments have since been quiet.

Other than THQ's assets, Nordic also acquired the studio's brand name, which it has incorporated into its own trademark label in Nordic's rebranding into the new THQ Nordic.

Speaking with reporters at a press release, Nordic founder and chief executive officer Lars Wingefors recalled of the company's sudden spot in the limelight back in 2013. Wingefors spoke of how his then-unknown company filling the headlines in the gaming industry, with many asking just who is this new player that came out of Austria.

"Funny enough, back then, this was so true," said Wingefors. "Until that point, we had been a low profile publisher uttering expletives of our own along the way, and all of a sudden we found ourselves in the international gaming media spotlight. We knew then, with great certainty, that we'd just made the best deal in our company´s history"

For gamers, the news sheds more light into the future of the franchises that went down with the THQ ship. One of those franchises is the acclaimed action role-playing video game series "Darksiders," which began in back in 2010 with the involvement of comic book artist Joe Madureira.

The "Darksiders" series has had two installments so far, with the second game coming out in 2012, with both being developed by Vigil Games. Come the closure of THQ, the fate of the franchise was uncertain until now that Wingefors has announced that the game is among the 13 titles that are currently under development by THQ Nordic.

"With this rebrand we are entering the next phase in our company's evolution," Wingefors revealed. "As of now we have 23 game projects in development, 13 thereof have not yet been publicly announced, but are sure to be in the next months. Needless to say, the majority of these projects are based on former THQ owned IPs and franchises."

No news specifics as of yet as to the current state of development.
