2016 MTV Video Music Awards: Rihanna To Receive MJ's Video Vanguard Award

Rihanna will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.The news was confirmed by the network on Thursday, August 11.

The 28-year old singer has come a long way since 2005. Recently, more than 61 million albums and 215 million tracks were sold in the market. She also taken home 14 Billboard Music Awards and 8 Grammy Awards.

Rihanna was best known for her big hits songs like "Rude Boy" and "Umbrella". Also, she taken up acting in the recent years. She appeared in the movies Annie and Battleship. Furthermore, it was revealed that she will join in the new season of A&E drama "Bates Motel". She will play the role of Marion Crane, a famous Psycho character. 

In this year's star studded show, the Barbadian native got two nominations, first is the nominations in Best 
Collaboration categories for her song "Work" which features drake and Best Female Video.

The past recipients of Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award are: Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Beyonce, Madonna, the Beastie Boys, Guns N' Roses, and Peter Gabriel. 

The Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, 9pm ET at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
