'Suicide Squad," David Ayer's supervillainous entry into DC Comics' lineup of films, has kept going strong despite the film's lambasting critical reception as the film has broken yet even more box office records for the month of August.

According to Deadline, the misfit matchup movie keeps going strong and has bulldozed box office performance records in its second week of life; with most of the records belonging to DC Comics' rival Marvel.

In it's opening weekend, "Suicide Squad" took down 2014's "Guardians of the Galaxy," another film with a similar theme that forced a ragtag bunch of convicts to work together from Marvel. "Suicide Squad" opened to a whopping $135 million in its first weekend, taking the spot of highest domestic opening weekend for August of all time from "Guardians of the Galaxy" which garnered $94.3 million in its debut.

Come the film's second week, "Suicide Squad" kept stomping on "Guardians of the Galaxy" by also taking the top spot for Tuesday ticket sales in August. More than that, David Ayer's film also zoomed past this year's latest superhero blockbuster "Captain America: Civil War," as well as last year's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in Tuesday profits.

For the specific numbers, Box Office Mojo numbers indicate "Suicide Squad" earnings for Tuesday, August 9 rose about 9% from Monday, raking in $14.27 million in ticket sales. By contrast, "Guardians of the Galaxy" garnered about $11.9 million in its highest Tuesday performance; meanwhile "Captain America: Civil War" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" raked in $13.76 million and $13.1 million in their highest Tuesday performances respectively.

"Suicide Squad's" beatdown of box office records extend not only to DC rival Marvel's works in the Marvel Cinematics Universe (MCU) whoever, as it also trumped the Tuesday performance of fellow DC Extended Universe (DCEU) predecessor "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." The DCEU launching platform garnered about $12.1 million for its Tuesday performance, though it still had a better debut of $166 million.

This most recent turn of events in "Suicide Squad's" box office performance just drove the jarring dissonance between the film's critical and audience reception even further, with the audiences and fans of the source material railing outcry at the critics for their scathing reviews of the film.

Though the above might seem as a cause for celebration to fans of the work, it is still early to judge just how well the film might perform overall. "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" ended up becoming a frontloaded blockbuster, so time will still tell just how "Suicide Squad" might affect the potential of the DCEU.
