Koreans Top List of Consuming News Via Smartphone

According to the Korea Press Foundation (KPF), almost half of all Koreans consume digital news via smartphones. They topped the list of 26 countries studied in a survey. 

The survey, called "Digital News Report 2016" by Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, involved 53,330 respondents in total. Koreans came in first place for digital news consumption via smartphones with 48% of the respondents and Sweden came in second with 46% and Switzerland in third with 42%.

In a separate question, 86% of all South Koreans reported reading the news from online in the previous week. Korean ranked in 9th place with this question. The highest number of online news readers were in Greece, with 96%. 

Only 28% of Koreans reported reading the news from traditional media including newspapers and magazines. Other countries, including Austria and Switzerland, reported 67% and 63% are reading from traditional media, respectively. 

The survey also indicated that most South Koreans do not trust everything they read in the news. Respondents an average of 2.89 out of 5 points when the statement: "Most news can be almost always trusted."
