Mamamoo, Seventeen Are 1st Groups Announced For KCON 2016 New York, No Word Yet On L.A. Lineup
K-pop fans, start your engines! The first two headliners for the East Coast lineup of the K-pop festival KCON 2016, scheduled for June 24 and 25 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. have been chosen. And they are Mamamoo and Seventeen.
Two relative newcomers to the South Korean music scene, four-member girl group Mamamoo, who debuted in 2014 and Seventeen, a boy band consisting of 13 people whose first EP came out last year, will appear at the highly-anticipated Hallyu event, which is billed as KCON New York 2016 even though it has taken place in New Jersey for both years of it existence.
The news was announced Thursday on KCON's YouTube channel during a "KCON Live Chat."
"Tickets for both KCON New York and KCON LA will soon be available for purchase," according to a press release from the event organizers.
No acts have been announced yet for KCON LA, which is planned for July 29 through the 31. The three-day event in the city where the festival, which also incorporates dance, food and other aspects of modern Korean culture, was first held five years ago.
"KCON is the largest North American convention dedicated to all things Hallyu," the press release reads.
"The convention launched in 2012 with over 10,000 fans attending and has more than doubled annually since to over 75,000 fans. KCON is now established in Los Angeles as the annual flagship event for American fans of Hallyu and Asian pop culture, providing the largest forum for fans to directly connect with each other, as well as artists and professionals from the Korean entertainment industry."
