Is 'Orphan Black' In Trouble Ahead Of Season 4 Premiere? Lawsuit Filed By 'Original' Creator
"Orphan Black" season 4 premiere is getting closer and closer and teasers are already all over the internet. At the back of these, though, the people behind it could be in trouble.
Screenwriter Stephen Hendricks filed a lawsuit against Temple Street Productions and "Orphan Black" producers for breach of ideas saying the two parties stole his concept he once let them see.
In the lawsuit, he said his screenplay "Double Double" was passed on to Temple Street and producers David York and David Fortier who now both work for "Orphan Black." He submitted the story in 2004 of October.
He discovered "Orphan Black" now on season 4, in 2013, the same year it premiered. After seeing it, he instantly realized that the show is the same as his own.
"The similarities between the Series and the Screenplay are so substantial that it is a virtual statistical impossibility that the former could have been created independently from the latter," wrote his attorney S. Michael Kernan in the lawsuit via The Hollywood Reporter.
Aside from the premise, he also saw similarities of some characters between "Double Double" and "Orphan Black."
"The complaint also claims several Orphan Black characters, including leads Sarah (Tatiana Maslany) and Felix (Jordan Gavaris), parallel characters from Double Double, as do settings, plot points and the overall mood," THR further wrote.
BBC is yet to respond to the lawsuit.
NEW SEASON
