Last March, it was confirmed that Syfy's hit series "12 Monkeys" would get a second season, following a successful 13-episode run. But with no exact date given, fans were left clueless as to when they can expect the movie-to-TV adaptation to be back.

However, just last Oct. 9, release date tracker When Will reported that Syfy officially released an extended trailer of "12 Monkeys" Season 2, set to return in April next year.

Despite that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the original showrunner, Natalie Chaidez, will step down from the show. She is tapped to showrun an upcoming Syfy drama, "Hunters." Replacing her are "12 Monkeys" executive producers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett.

For fans worrying about a change of direction because of these personnel changes, it is refreshing to note that Chaidez is leaving the show in good hands. Matalas and Fickett are the ones who created the show, and one of the executive producers, Charles Roven, produced the original film.

The second season of "12 Monkeys" is set to start strong, as the first season ended with a wounded Railly time-traveling to the future. The extended trailer released by Syfy at the New York Comic Con showed the protagonists bouncing through time and discovering more about the deadly virus.

Entertainment Weekly reports another refreshing news on "12 Monkeys" Season 2:"The Shield" and "Downton Abbey" alums Jay Karnes and Brendan Coyle are joining the cast. Karnes will recur as an FBI agent from the 40s, while Coyle will play a bioengineer who had a hand in creating the deadly virus that wiped the humans in the future.

Even though there are no release dates for the episodes, the April release of the second season of "12 Monkeys" is still better than what was initially rumored: Winter 2016.
