Danai Gurira's Michonne part of surprising twist in latest 'The Walking Dead' season 6 episode

Probably the major "The Walking Dead" season 6 spoiler no one saw. Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) hooked up.

What does this mean for the two moving forward, especially for the sword-wielding femme fatale?

Michonne is still alive in the comic book where the show is based from. If it is the source material that will be referenced, it seems the latest development between the two kick-ass characters will serve as the television's version of the Andrea-Rick relationship.

Andrea, played by Laurie Holden, has already been killed off in the third season. In the comics, she formed a relationship with Rick and served as mother figure to Carl, just like how Michonne's character is shaping up in the TV show. In the comics, Andrea is still alive although she is yet to appear in the latest issue.

When asked for "The Walking Dead" season 6 spoilers, Gurira said the Michonne-Rick relationship is one of way of signifying that people are feeling human again.

"They're in a moment where they got a new lease on life," she told Wall Street Journal.

"Rick is in a whole new place, as he talks about at the end of the episode before. They're in a moment of newness and hopefulness. Carl has recovered, which is a gift and a blessing. It's a time when they can actually function in a bit more of the mundane. And the mundane is a gift in this world. I think this is why both Michonne and Rick can finally realize what's in front of them."

They might run out of breathing room soon though. It is well advertised that the end of season six will be the start of a more miserable life for Rick and his group. Negan, the vicious, psychotic villain from the comic book, will arrive. This guy has a no non-sense approach when it comes to killing and fans are now eagerly waiting who is he going to kill with his affectionately-named baseball bat Lucille. In the comics, he killed Glenn in front of devastated Maggie, Rick, Carl, and others.

The next "The Walking Dead" season 6 episode is called "Knots Untie."
