‘Captain Marvel’ Cast: Will Charlize Theron Beat Emily Blunt For The Lead Role?

The complete “Captain Marvel” cast has not yet been officially announced but as of today, many speculations are circulating that two actresses are neck-to-neck in the bid for the lead role.

Youth Health Mag wrote that it is a tough battle for picking who will play Carol Danvers in the first superhero movie to be led by a female heroine. There were rumors that Katee Sackhoff of the series “Battlestar Galactica” and Bryce Dallas-Howard of “Jurassic World” may be auditioning for the part. Rebecca Ferguson of “Prometheus 2: Alien Covenant” was also rumored to be applying.

However, it looks like Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron may be the top contenders to appear as the lead of the “Captain Marvel” cast.

Youth Health Mag continued that Blunt may be perfect for the role especially after her “Sicario” movie, which reportedly did well at the box office. Cinemablend wrote that Blunt was made for the role of FBI agent Kate Macer. In fact, it was reported that Blunt was nominated for the “Best Actress” category in the AACTA International Awards but reportedly lost to Cate Blanchett.

As for Charlize Theron, her “Mad Max: Fury Road” character Imperator Furiosa gave her the edge for playing action lead roles, YHM continued. She is also reportedly amping up the character of Evil Queen Ravenna in the upcoming “The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” where is joined by fellow contender Blunt as the Ice Queen Freya.

Screen Rant reported that it was previously feared “Captain Marvel” will be cancelled after a series of delays and date changes were made. It was reported that the film was originally slated for a 2018 release but due to the slots being taken by “Spider-Man” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” it was further pushed back.

“Captain Marvel” is reported to be released on March 8, 2019.
