'Pokken Tourment' Release Date Set For March 2016; Special Controller Will Also Release In The US

A new Pokémon fighting game called "Pokken Tournament" is coming to Nintendo's Wii U console and recent reports state that its release date will come next month.

According to Gotta Be Mobile, "Pokken Tournament" release date is on March 28, 2016, although the title has already been released as an arcade game in Japan.

The website noted that it will be exclusive to Nintendo and won't be available for Microsoft's Xbox One, Sony's PS4 or the PC.

In line with its launch, Nintendo is releasing "Pokken Tournament" with its own special controller based on the arcade machine.

According to Yibada, the controller dubbed as the "Pokken Tournament Pro Pad" already has a pre-order listing on Game Stop.

The controller alone costs $24.99 and a pre-order copy of the game which includes an amiibo card costs $59.99.

A complete "Pokken Tournament" bundle which includes a 32 GB Black Wii U Premium controller, a digital copy of the game and a special booklet that lists all of the characters' fighting moves is priced at 36,000 yen, which is roughly about $300.

Those who pick up the first wave copy of "Pokken Tournament" will receive a special Shadow Mewtwo amibo, eliminating the need to finish the game to unlock the character.

The upcoming title isn't like any other Pokemon game available on the market.

Instead of catching and training the tiny creatures, gamers will now use their favorites to engage in full-contact battles with other characters when the release date arrives.

The game was developed by Bandai Namco, the company who created the popular fighting franchise "Tekken."

A video on the game's official website features characters leaping into the air to deliver powerful attacks against opponents.

Confirmed characters appearing in the game are Pikachu, Blaziken, Machamp, Charizard, Gardevoir, Weavile, Suicune and Shadow Mewtwo, Rotom, Togekiss, Dragonite and Sceptile.

Stay tuned for more on "Pokken Tournament's" release date update as information becomes available.
